Stock Photo Collection of Mekotek Stick War, a traditional Bali Event in Indonesia which originates in the South Bali village of Desa Munggu, the only place on the island which carries out such a ritual. Mekotek occurs once every 210 days on Kuningan Day which is a Balinese Hindu ceremonial day in the Balinese Saka Calendar.

Mekotek sees the coming together of traditionally dressed Balinese men with long Pulet wood sticks which they use to form a cone with in preparation for the battle of Mekotekan whereby two village groups of rivals attempt to force down to the ground the opponents cone of sticks and be pronounced the winner. The villagers used to use spears for the ritual but were forced to replace these with less harmless sticks by the Dutch colonialists back in the 1930’s.
