Stock Photo Description

Stock photo of Orangutan an alpha male caged and very much an endangered species nowadays. This male Orangutan looks sad and dismayed at its predicament. The Orangutan population is said to be in rapid decline in Sumatra and Borneo and it is believed they could well be extinct in the next decade! This face portrait sums it up really, the present situation isn’t very promising hence an increasing need for Rehabilitation Centers and Wildlife Centers.

In the Indonesian and Malay Language Orang means person and Hutan is forest hence the name Orangutan literally means man or person of the forest and with forests also in decline due to human activity such as logging and the clearing of rainforest for oil palm plantations there doesn’t seem much hope for these beautiful and incredible primates. This image was taken at the Matang Wildlife Center in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
