Description

Stock photo of Boat Traders in the form of two Banjar Women from south Kalimantan in Borneo selling goods or trading in kind with each other on the Martapura River at Lok Baintan near Banjarmasin City. This is a unique and quaint way for these riverine people to trade goods at the floating market otherwise known as Pasar Terapung in the Indonesian Language. This is an occupation and pastime which has apparently been going on for centuries and consists mainly of women who wake at the crack of dawn or just before sunrise to get on the river like real boat traders who sell a variety of fresh tropical fruits and vegetables to each other or to the many visitors which come to see this most traditional of markets. As the boat traders pass riverside stores or houses most of which are built on stilts they have more potential customers.
