Stock Photo Description
Stock photo of Cattle grazing on fertile green grass high up at altitude in the Highlands region of Tana Toraja also known as Toraja Land. The Asian Water Buffalo is the main form of Cattle grazing one would see in this Indigenous area of Sulawesi. This Water Buffalo is grazing beside impressive and unique Tongkonan structures which are specific to the Toraja Culture. The Tongkonan usually refers to the Toraja peoples houses but the Rice Stores are shaped similarly with Buffalo horn shaped roofs but on a much smaller scale. Elegant and well designed traditional architecture made mostly from natural materials such as wood which is carved in tribal designs and painted accordingly. Water buffalo Cattle grazing is a necessity as these stunning animals are constantly being used for animal sacrifice in traditional Torajan Ceremonies.
