Stock photo of Chamba Temple or Basgo Buddhist Monastery at Basgo in Ladakh. A stunning sight to behold, perched on an arid precipice in this green oasis like fertile valley during the summer months. Chamba Temple at Basgo Monastery is also known as Basgo Gompa due to it’s location at said village in this high altitude wilderness. Chamba Maitreya temple is within the ancient Basgo Buddhist monastery constructed from natural materials such as wood and mud that help it blend in with the landscape. It was built for the Namgyal rulers in 1680. Situated in the high altitude himalayan region of northern India the landscape looks very different during winter when snow covers the whole area and access is almost impossible!
