Image Description

Stock photo of and close up image of the unusual two-humped Bactrian Camel of Hundar in the Nubra valley region of Ladakh. Originally from the deserts of Central Asia and said to have been left behind during the trading years along the Silk Road. The Bactrian camel is a beautiful animal although sometimes temperamental.
Part of the Silk road the ancient caravan route stretched from Kashgar in Chinese Central Asia to Leh in Ladakh and passed through the small town of Hundar which seems to accomodate the camels nicely these days with sizeable sand dunes on the outskirts of this high altitude desert town.
