Shot of Leh Valley in the distance as seen from Khardong La (la means pass in Tibetan). This mountain pass high up in the Indian Himalaya is claimed to be the worlds highest motorable pass at 18,380ft or 5,682m.
The pass itself separates Leh valley from Nubra valley and the road in years gone by was part of the ancient caravan route from Leh to Kashgar in Chinese Central Asia. Thousands of horses and camels used to take this route annually although now they have been replaced by Jeeps and Trucks.
