Nymphaea alba is one of the common water lilies found in British ponds and also known as the White Water Lily. A beautiful aquatic plant with big showy flower head seen often in the British countryside. This water lily or Lotus flower has just begun to bloom hence the vividly colored petals of this elegant flowering plant. The White Water Lily also has Medicinal plant properties as do many of the species of Nymphaea. A decoction of the root is used in the treatment of dysentery or diarrhea caused by irritable bowel syndrome and the rhizome has astringent and sedative properties.
