In India the cow has a strong religious connection for the Hindu faith. Even the popular English Language expression “Holy Cow” which is an exclamation of surprise dates back to the early 1900s and the time of the British Raj in India. The cow is reverred in Hindu culture for a variety of reasons. The cow gives milk, they eat all the waste including ‘cardboard’! their excrement is used for bio-gas or for burning material when cooking yet the biggest draw for most cultures is the meat or beef which is actually prohibited within the Hindu diet.
