The Last time Mount Merapi erupted was October 2010 when lava from its southern and southeastern slopes descended with great rapidity. People living within a 20 km (12 miles) zone were told to evacuate but the eruption was so fast over 300 people still lost their lives and houses were destroyed on a grand scale.
